Private donors have collected $1,000 to offer as a reward for the person who finds the body of missing St. Paul woman Kira Trevino, KARE 11 reports.

Volunteer search organizers announced the new reward Thursday, as law enforcement officials took to the Mississippi River in boats as they followed leads in the case. Investigators were on the water near the I-494 Wakota Bridge in South St. Paul.

A dedicated band of volunteers have been doing their own weekend searches, and four more are planned for Saturday and Sunday, on Harriet Island, in Fort Snelling State Park and in Hidden Falls-Crosby Farm Regional Park in St. Paul, and Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis.

Kira Trevino has been missing since Feb. 21, and prosecutors believe she is dead because a large amount of her blood was found at the home she shared with her husband. Read more in the criminal complaint.

Other evidence in the case includes a bag found near Keller Lake that contained a bloody pillowcase that contained DNA that matched that of the 30-year-old St. Paul woman.

Her husband, Jeffery Trevino, is charged with second-degree murder and has pleaded not guilty. A tentative trial date has been set for May 28.
