An Iron Range woman is charged with homicide, after reportedly confessing to authorities that she arranged the killing of her boyfriend more than a year ago.

A criminal complaint against Janessa Peters, 21, says she told investigators last month that she had asked to have Harley Jacka killed in April of 2014, and was coming forward because she couldn't live with herself anymore, WDIO reports.

Peters was jailed in August on drug charges and a probation violation.

A charge of selling methamphetamine dates back to February of 2014 – less than two months before Jacka was found stabbed to death in a Virgina, Minnesota, apartment.

The Duluth News Tribune reports the complaint filed Tuesday says that while in jail on the drug charge, Peters came forward with information about Jacka's killing, telling investigators that she had wanted out of her relationship with Jacka and had asked Bartholomy Drift to get rid of him.

Drift is one of three men who have been charged in connection with Jacka's death and are awaiting trial.

Peters' bail on the new second-degree murder charge was set at $1 million, the News Tribune says, and a conviction could bring up to 40 years in prison.
