Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak said if he's in line to take over as chairman of the Democratic National Committee, it's news to him, Minnesota Public Radio reported.

Politico reported Wednesday that Rybak was considered as a top candidate to replace DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz should she decide to step down from the post in January. Rybak is currently vice chair of the DNC.

Rybak, who is in Washington to lobby Congress and the executive branch on issues related to the fiscal cliff, said, "Nobody has talked to me about anything" or vice versa.

One of President Barack Obama's earliest supporters, Rybak said last week that he would decide by the first of the year whether he'd run for a fourth term as mayor of Minneapolis.

Rybak spoke at the Democratic National Convention in September.
