Nobody was injured when a railcar exploded in Cannon Falls on Tuesday morning.

According to the Cannon Falls Police Department, a railcar hauling molasses exploded around 7 a.m. at the Progressive Rail Transload Center. The blast caused "significant structural damage to a building" at the facility, though no one was injured.

Police say the train car was carrying molasses and there is no indication that any hazardous materials were released in the explosion.

However, police said the "surrounding area was affected by molasses that was ejected by the explosion and a full assessment of the area impacted is underway."

At least one house neighboring the rail station had molasses covering the yard and car parked outside, according to a social media post.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
