The mayor of Redwood Falls died unexpectedly Friday. Gary Revier was a prominent businessman and historian, according to the Redwood Falls Gazette.

He died at home two days after he turned 67. No foul play is suspected.

He hosted a weekly history lesson on a local radio station, KLGR AM, which reports that he was also active in veterans' groups, Native American causes, and the local food shelf.

The Forum News Service says Revier had been involved in government since he was elected to the Redwood Falls City Council at age 23. He also served as a school board member, president of the chamber of commerce, and public utilities commissioner. He had been elected mayor three times.

He ran for Congress in 1994 and 1996, but lost to Democrat David Minge.

His Facebook page is filled with condolences and anecdotes. One poster wrote "You were Redwood's version of Google." Many remembered Revier's passion for his community, and for history.
