Removed Washburn principal inflated job experience on résumé

The former Washburn High School Principal who was removed from his post after being accused of test tampering may not have been telling the whole truth on his résumé.

The Star Tribune reports Patrick Exner, who was only on the job for a couple days, said his previous title at Ubah Medical Academy in Hopkins was "academic director (principal)" while the school's website listed him as "associate director" that worked under Director Musa Farah.

Exner also claimed on his résumé that Ubah had 350 students enrolled, which is 10 percent larger than the size it reported to the state, according to the newspaper.

Exner was ousted last week after allegations surfaced that he changed answers for three Ubah students on the state’s GRAD reading test.

Minneapolis Public Schools told the Star Tribune that Exner was the only candidate out of pool of 23 applicants that was interviewed for the job. District officials said they checked his references and also made informal reference checks, and received nothing but good feedback.

A national search will launch later in the school year for Exner's replacement. The district is also seeking a replacement for former South High School Principal Cecilia Saddler, who is now overseeing the district's southwestern schools.
