Legal troubles are mounting for the co-owner of Lakeville's Alibi Drinkery, whose ongoing battle with the state over COVID-19 restrictions has generated numerous headlines recently.

Ricardo Baldazo, 39, already facing attempted murder charges in an unrelated incident, was cited this week over an attack that allegedly happened at a Jimmy John's in Rosemount.

The citation, which lists the offense as assault in the 5th degree, was issued on Wednesday.

According to Minnesota Reformer, Baldazo was charged the next day with two counts of assault and one count of disorderly conduct, with authorities accusing him of "smacking a Jimmy John’s manager... after his companion was asked to wear a mask."

As the news site notes, video footage of the incident was shared on social media, where "internet sleuths" soon helped identify Baldazo.

The Prior Lake resident was charged in December with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of first-degree assault after allegedly firing upon police officers in Burnsville.

His latest charges come amid continuing legal issues for the bar he co-owns, which has made a name for itself defying Gov. Tim Walz's coronavirus restrictions. Alibi has continued to stay open despite having lost its license to do so in December.

Last month, the bar was sued by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), with officials blasting the establishment for operating "as a food and beverage establishment without a license."

“We do not take enforcement actions lightly,” said MDH Assistant Commissioner Dan Huff, in a statement. “Even when there is no pandemic, the public depends upon the licensing of bars and restaurants as a basic public health measure – which is why the legislature requires that bars and restaurants have an active license in order to serve the public.”
