Report of male with hatchet sparks major police response in Hopkins

The suspect was arrested in connection with an assault.

A suspect carrying a knife and a hatchet sparked a "large police presence” in Hopkins.

According to a Facebook post from the Hopkins Police Department Thursday night, officers responded to Highway 7 and Oakridge Road after reports of a man in possession of the weapons.

The suspect fled the scene, but he was later located in St. Louis Park and arrested for assault.

"Residents may have noticed a large police presence in the area of Hwy 7 and Oakridge Rd as well as W 36th St and Phillips Pkwy," the police department said.

"HPD believes this male was alone and no further suspects are at large.

No injuries were reported, with citizens who called 911 thanked for alerting police.
