Surly Brewing Co. spent $1.8 million for the site of its planned "destination brewery," according to documents, Finance and Commerce reported (the full story is behind a pay wall).

The Brooklyn Center-based brewer earlier in the week finalized its purchase on a site in the Prospect Park area of Minneapolis for its bar, restaurant, beer garden and event center, but the cost of the site had not been disclosed.

Surly has said the 8.3-acre site at Malcolm Avenue and Fifth Street SE, just off University Avenue, will be the new home of its $20 million operation, capable of producing 100,000 barrels of beer each year.

Surly is working to secure approval for site remediation and the brewer aims to start cleanup this fall.
