The woman who was allegedly killed in Big Lake on Thursday was a Big Lake City Council member.
The Sherburne County Sheriff's Office said a man called 911 to report that his son was at the home and the son indicated he had just killed his mother.
A 20-year-old man was taken into custody on the 1800 block of Golf Street. During a search, police found a woman's body.
The victim was identified on Friday evening by the Midwest Medical Examiner as Rosalie Ellen Johnson, 62, who a Big Lake City Council member.
The 20-year-old suspect is being held in jail on suspicion of murder, Sherburne County jail records show.
KARE 11 spoke with Paul Knier, a fellow Big Lake council member, who said of Johnson: "She was a great person who cared about the community of Big Lake and stood up for her beliefs, and always came prepared."
The city's website says Johnson was appointed to the City Council in 2019 to fill a vacancy. Her seat was up for election this November.
