An accident at a construction site in Scott County Wednesday morning left one worker dead and another injured, KARE 11 reports.

Emergency dispatchers told the television station that around 9 a.m., the two were installing power lines along County Road 2 near Drexel Avenue in Helena, just south of New Prague, when they fell into a hole about 50 feet deep.

KARE 11 says the construction was part of the CapX2020 project. A Great River Energy spokesperson said a strap suspending the workers broke, causing them to drop into the hole dug to support a 140-foot power pole.

The Star Tribune said the injured worker was airlifted to a hospital. His condition is unknown.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation said Monday that heavy-duty transmission lines for the major power project would occur this week.

The 250 miles of transmission between Brookings County, South Dakota and Dakota County is managed by Great River Energy, KSTP reported.
