Reports: 2 killed by driver fleeing police in downtown Fergus Falls

The deadly crash happened Friday evening.

A police chase in Otter Tail County came to a tragic end this weekend.

It happened in the area of downtown Fergus Falls on Friday evening, leaving two innocent people dead and the suspect seriously injured.

According to Detroit Lakes Online, the suspect vehicle smashed into the victims' car near the intersection of North Union Avenue and Cavour Avenue West at about 6:45 p.m.

The news site says the suspect was fleeing from authorities at the time of the crash.

Prior to the crash, Valley News Live reports, Otter Tail County deputies had attempted to arrest the man on outstanding warrants for felony drug crimes, felony theft, felony fleeing, domestic assault, and obstructing legal process

The site says authorities had posed as an acquaintance on social media to lure the man to a local convenience store, but the suspect fled the meeting, sparking the pursuit.

He suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, the Star Tribune notes. Authorities have not identified him yet.

The two victims of the crash have also not yet been named.
