Reports: Mpls. funk band sues Bruno Mars, says 'Uptown Funk' copied them

Did "Uptown Funk" copy this 80s song?

Did Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson funk with the wrong Minneapolis band?

Sources – including Pitchfork – say a Minneapolis electro-funk band called Collage is suing the musicians. They accuse Mars and Ronson of copying them with their 2014 hit, "Uptown Funk."

Collage's lawsuit says "Uptown Funk" “is an obvious, strikingly and/or substantially similar copy” of their 1983 single called "Young Girls."

The complaint goes on to say that the 2014 hit's guitar riffs, bass sequence, horns and synthesizers are "almost indistinguishable" when compared to "Young Girls."

According to TMZ, the odds of Ronson and Mars knowing about about Collage's songs are pretty good. The funk band reportedly claims Ronson and Mars have been big fans of Minneapolis 80s electro-funk. And Collage was a part of that scene.

Considering "Uptown Funk" sold more than 6.1 million copies, TMZ says the stakes are pretty high. The 2014 hit is also the second-longest number-one hit single in Billboard history, and reportedly made its label $100,000 a week on Spotify.

ET Canada reports Collage is seeking damages and pay for copyright infringement.

Only one member of the 80s funk band is said to be alive, Larry White.
