Reports: Prince's remains were cremated before a private memorial

Since Prince's death was announced Thursday morning, fans have been stopping by Paisley Park to remember the iconic musician.

And Saturday afternoon, Prince's family members had their own private memorial at the Purple One's Chanhassen home.

Billboard says state troopers escorted family and friends to the residence.

Among those who attended were model Damaris Lewis and Prince's ex-fiance Sheila E., the source says.

Larry Graham, who used to make music with Prince, was also there and spoke to fans, KSTP reports. The station says he thanked fans for coming, and said Prince's family and friends appreciate their support.

Those who were close to Prince even handed out presents to some fans. NBC News says the purple boxes contained shirts, CDs and other memorabilia.

Maurice Phillips – who's the husband of Prince's sister, Tyka Nelson – says a public memorial is in the works, Radar Online reports.

Prince's publicist told CNN that Prince's remains have been cremated. His final resting place will be kept private, NBC News adds.

The 57-year-old's death is still under investigation and could be for weeks, the Carver County sheriff said Friday.

Not much has been made public about how and why the musician died, yet. But officials say it doesn't appear to have been a suicide. They also say Prince did not have any visible signs of trauma on his body.

The sheriff confirmed that first responders did not administer Narcan – a drug to reverse the effects of opiates – when they found Prince in the elevator of his home.

An autopsy was done Friday, and officials say a toxicology is also being performed.
