Debbie Reynolds has died, one day after her daughter did

"She wanted to be with Carrie," said Reynolds' son

Entertainer Debbie Reynolds died at the age of 84 on Wednesday, the day after her daughter, Carrie Fisher passed away.

Reynolds' son, Todd Fisher, confirmed his mother's death to Variety, saying: "She wanted to be with Carrie."

The Hollywood Reporter says the Los Angeles fire department responded to a medical emergency at Todd Fisher's home on Wednesday afternoon.

The Los Angeles Times reports a law enforcement source said Reynolds was having trouble breathing.

The celebrity news site TMZ has dispatch audio in which medical crews are told to respond to a stroke at the Beverly Hills home.

Reynolds, 84, is the stepmother of actress Joely Fisher, who tweeted this:

The New York Daily News reports Reynolds was at her son's home to make plans for Carrie Fisher's funeral.

The newspaper reports Todd Fisher said about an hour before the medical emergency that the family is considering laying his sister to rest near his mother's planned burial site.

Reynolds posted a Facebook message after her daughter's death Tuesday.

Reynolds had a long career as an actress and singer, highlighted by her starring role alongside Gene Kelly in the 1952 musical Singin' in the Rain.
