An investigation is underway following the apparent shooting death of a young child this weekend.

Reports say it happened in St. Cloud on Friday, just north of the downtown area.

According to FOX 9, officers were dispatched to St. Cloud Hospital that afternoon on a report of a deceased five-year-old boy, who had been shot earlier.

The station says it was later determined that the child had been shot at a home on the 800 Block of 10th Avenue North.

Authorities say the shooting appears to be accidental, though a a 35-year-old man from Chicago was arrested on charges of being a felon in possession of a gun, possession of a stolen firearm, and negligent storage of a firearm, WCCO reports.

The suspect is now in custody at the Stearns County jail, WJON notes.

Authorities have not yet identified the child, and the shooting is still under investigation.
