Residents in a Bloomington neighborhood are on the lookout for a large cat that has been seen twice in the past three days, and there's concern that it might be a cougar.

Here's what Bloomington Police said in a release:

"Residents in the area of 102nd Street and Chicago Avenue have reported seeing a large cat on two different occasions during the last three days. Both described the cat as looking like a cougar. At this time, no photos have been taken of the animal."

Anyone who spots a large cat resembling a cougar is asked to contact Bloomington Police 952-563-4900. And if anyone comes into contact with the cat should make note of the following tips from Bloomington PD:

  • Keep calm.
  • Make yourself look as large as possible and back away slowly, keeping the cougar in view, and allowing a clear exit for the cougar.
  • Pick up children and small pets immediately.
  • Never run or turn your back—sudden movements may provoke an attack.

The release notes data from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, saying there have been approximately 30 cougar sightings in Minnesota within the past 15 years
