Road rage leads to brawl at Willmar intersection, police say
Willmar police say a fight at a busy intersection in Willmar during rush hour yesterday appears to have stemmed from a road rage incident among people who knew each other.
The fight occurred around 4:30 p.m. on a service road next to the intersection of Highway 12 and Lakeland Drive.
A 41-year-old father and his 19-year-old son along with another 18-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of second-degree probable assault with dangerous weapons, according to the police report. A 22-year-old man who appears to be related to the 18-year-old was also issued a citation.
The 41-year-old is also facing a pending charge of liability for crime to others.
Ten officers responded to the scene, records show.
"It certainly was a visible type thing and we're glad that nothing worse became of it, that nobody received any grave injuries," Willmar Police Chief Jim Felt told Lakeland Broadcasting.
Each of the men were treated for injuries — caused by weapons including a baseball bat — before being taken into custody, according to the police report.
"It sounds like it was a road rage incident between some people who knew each other. Other family members got involved. There were multiple cars involved," Felt said on the radio.
