Road work ahead: Areas to avoid during holiday travel week
Thousands of drivers will hit the road this week for the Fourth of July holiday. Whether you're heading out of the metro or staying in town, here's a couple of potential hangups to watch out for.
In the metro, KSTP points out traffic along I-694 will be slow-moving between I-35W and Highway 100 due to lane reductions.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the Highway 10 diagonal between I-694 and I-35W will remain closed.
If you're heading to Stillwater, KSTP suggests avoiding Highway 36 altogether due to the closure between Highway 61 and White Bear Avenue.
KARE 11 reports a vital link to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport closed Monday for a four-month project. The closure of the ramp from westbound I-494 to 34th Avenue causes a major disruption for travelers going to Terminal 2, or the former Humphrey Terminal. A map of the detour is available.
Fortunately, current lane and ramp closures along I-94 between St. Michael and Monticello and also between Clearwater and St. Cloud will open up for most of the travel week.
Out-state Minnesota will also see some detours along major arteries. For a complete list of road work affecting this week's travel, click here. The Patch also has a good breakdown of potential interruptions.
