A road worker is in a critical condition after he was struck by a driver in Scott County, west of Prior Lake, Monday afternoon.
The collision happened just after noon just north of the intersection of Marschall Road and 170th Street East in Spring Lake Township.
According to the Scott County Sheriff's Office: "Initial investigation indicates that a 2019 Jeep Wrangler was traveling northbound on Marschall Road when it struck a construction flagger directing traffic in a work zone."
The worker, a 59-year-old man from Thief River Falls, was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Shakopee before being transferred to HCMC in Minneapolis, where he remains critical.
The Jeep driver, an 87-year-old man from New Prague, was not injured in the collision, nor was the passenger in his vehicle.
"This is a tragic reminder of how important it is to always be alert and use extra caution when driving in work zones,” said Sheriff Luke Hennen.
"We have a shared responsibility to help keep the men and women working in road construction zones safe."
