Two University of Minnesota students were transported to a hospital early Wednesday morning after being assaulted near a light rail station.

According to U of M Public Safety, two male students were at the East Bank light rail platform around 1 a.m. when two suspects approached and began verbally harassing them.

The suspects demanded the students hand over their wallets, and when they refused they were assaulted.

The suspects fled the scene but not before leaving the students with bruising and cuts to their faces, injuries that required treatment and further evaluation at a local hospital.

U of M police have not yet been able to provide a detailed description of the suspects, but anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Metro Transit Police at 612-349-7222.
