Rochester's Mayo Clinic once again the nation's No. 1 hospital

The Mayo Clinic in Rochester has once again been named the nation’s best hospital by U.S. News and World Report.

The hospital also earned the top honor in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Since U.S. News and World Report began ranking hospitals, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester has always made the list, according to a press release from the Mayo Clinic.

“Being recognized as the No. 1 health care provider in the nation is a tribute to the incredible work of our staff because it recognizes both our medical expertise as well as our commitment to compassionate, individualized care," said Gianrico Farrugia, president and CEO of the Mayo Clinic in a statement.

"Each day, we strive to bring hope and healing to our patients."

The Mayo Clinic hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, also made the list, tied for the 18th spot in a list of 20 hospitals. No other Minnesota hospital ranked in the list.

Rankings also go into specialty areas. The Mayo Clinic in Rochester was named the best hospital in the fields of diabetes and endocrinology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology; nephrology and urology.

This means the hospital topped the most specialty area lists.

The Mayor Clinic in Rochester ranked second in the areas of cardiology and heart surgery; geriatric; gynecology; neurology and neurosurgery; orthopedics and pulmonology; and lung surgery.

According to U.S. News and World Report, ranking are decided using both data and expert opinions.
