A daycare in Rogers, Minnesota, is under investigation after a child apparently wandered away from the facility this past week.
Local police announced the investigation on Friday, saying that a woman called had the department that morning after finding a "small child across the street from the daycare," which is located on Northdale Boulevard.
The caller brought the youngster back to the daycare, where "two additional children" were found outside the fence.
Police say "it appears it was not an intentional act to leave the gate open," but note that the investigation is ongoing.
Per FOX 9, it happened at a local KinderCare, whose owners released a statement saying they've "taken immediate steps to ensure this kind of thing doesn’t happen again."
The statement does not specify why the gate was left open, but does say that staff will "keep a closer eye on all vendors as they work on and around our center."
KinderCare — a national chain of daycares based in Portland, Oregon — has dozens of centers around the Twin Cities.
