Sunday night marked the big debut for a nervous new TV anchorman in Bismarck, N.D., and in his own words:

A.J. Clemente's first two words on the air on Bismarck NBC affiliate KFYR were two profanities (see the clip below), which he uttered with the camera rolling as the show got underway. Perhaps just as painful as the swearing was Clemente's attempt to recover as he stutters through introducing himself, and then a few headlines.

The station fired him, Clemente tweeted Monday:

Clemente's co-anchor had made an on-air apology later in the broadcast, Deadspin notes.

On Twitter, Clemente also clarified that he did not also utter the word "gay" before his profanities.

The station on Facebook made another apology Sunday night, and that Facebook post prompted nearly 1,000 comments – many of them in support of Clemente, urging the station not to fire him. But it wasn't enough to save his job.
