A man suspected of stealing a car and robbing a Roseville bank over the weekend has been identified as 46-year-old Clint B. Eldeen, 46, who escaped Friday evening from a minimum security prison in South Dakota.
Eldeen has served 15 years in prison for several crimes including check fraud, and has a long criminal history, according to the South Dakota Department of Corrections.
The Roseville Police Department released surveillance photos from the bank robbery and said citizens recognized Eldeen, according to KARE 11. The station adds that he reportedly has ties to the Twin Cities area.
KARE 11 reports that authorities have issued arrest warrants for Eldeen, for the prison escape and the Roseville bank robbery.
Two-state crime spree
Eldeen walked out of the minimum security wing of the South Dakota state prison in Sioux Falls about 6:45 p.m. Friday, according to corrections officials there.
He is suspected of stealing a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am from a Pizza Hut delivery person in Sioux Falls a few hours later, then driving to Faribault where he stole license plates from a car on display at an auto dealership there.
Eldeen allegedly stopped to fill up at a Super America gas station on I-35 in Lakeville at 3 a.m. Saturday and drove off without paying.
He is suspected of robbing the Bremer Bank on Highway B2 in Roseville around 9:40 a.m. Saturday, and driving off in the stolen vehicle. The car was found a few minutes later abandoned at a nearby parking lot.
Surveillance photos from the gas station and the bank indicate the same man is responsible for both those crimes.
Eldeen is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, 170 pounds, with short brown hair and blue eyes.
Two more bank robberies may be linked
Meantime, two banks were robbed in Richfield Tuesday afternoon, and police are still trying to capture the suspect.
A Richfield police dispatcher told the Argus Leader officials believe Eldeen may be the culprit in these two robberies. But no other information has been released yet.
According to the Leader, a white male robbed a Wells Fargo Bank and a TCF Bank in Richfield Tuesday afternoon and fled in a silver Chrysler sedan.
Police gave chase, but the suspect abandoned the car and fled on foot, according to the police department's Facebook page.
Officers from several departments as well as K-9 units are searching for him.
Richfield police say the suspect is wearing a grey Army t-shirt and shorts. Anyone with information about Eldeen's whereabouts is asked to contact law enforcement.
