A 23-year-old Roseville man has been charged in connection to a shooting outside Billy on Grand in St. Paul that left one person dead and another wounded.
Demond A. Dawson, 23, of Roseville, was charged this week in Ramsey County District Court with one count of second-degree murder, one county of second-degree attempted murder and another count for second-degree murder via a drive-by shooting.
A criminal complaint explains that Dawson has been accused of being the gunman who was also driving a silver Pontiac, from which he shot the victims at point-blank range following an argument around 3:25 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 27.
The victim who died has been identified as 29-year-old Albert D. Stevens, who perished at the scene from a gunshot wound to the chest. Another victim was rushed to an emergency room with a gunshot wound that severed an artery in his leg.
Witnesses told police that Stevens got into an argument with Dawson and the occupants of a car while standing outside Billy's on Grand after bar close. Dawson drove away and then pulled a U-turn, at which point the argument continued and shots were fired.
The victim who was shot in the leg told investigators that Stevens flashed a gun after the people inside the car said something to upset him, according to the complaint. When Dawson turned the car around and came back, Steven allegedly walked up to the driver's window and was shot.
The second victim was also shot then, at which point he limped across the street to receive help from friends.
