Same gunmen suspected in 6 armed robberies in metro

Investigators say they believe the same three gunmen are responsible for six robberies in the Twin Cities in recent days.

Police have made no arrests, and only general descriptions of the suspects have been released. Police say the robbers have had their faces covered and worn masks, hoods and gloves in each crime. Witnesses have described the men as 20 to 25 years old, who work in groups of three and always display guns.

The latest incidents were a pair of brazen holdups by three pistol-toting robbers at two Minneapolis Subway restaurants on Thursday morning, about 90 minutes apart, police said.

In the first robbery at about 7 a.m. at the Subway, 2400 E. Hennepin Ave, police say the trio put employees in the cooler before fleeing with cash. In the second robbery in the St. Anthony Shopping Center at 2900 NE. Pentagon Drive, the men forced open the safe and money drawer and took off with an undisclosed amount of cash. No injuries were reported in either heist, KARE 11 reports.

Police released these images on their Facebook page:

On Monday, a similar robbery unfolded at the Lone Spur Grill and Bar on Cedar Lake Road in Minnetonka, near Hopkins High School and North Junior High School. Gunman robbed yet another Minneapolis Subway at about 7 a.m. March 13, police say.

Police say they believe two other similar robberies were the work of the same trio, although they say they cannot definitively connect all six, the Star Tribune reports.

Another robbery happened Monday morning at a Quiznos restaurant on 1851 Washington Ave. S., police say.

“They started to ask me ‘Where is the money? Where is the money? Get on the ground, crawl, crawl, crawl, crawl!’” Quiznos manager Marco Quiroga told WCCO. “I didn’t know what was going on.”

The gunmen told Quiroga to open a safe and then they put him in cooler with a co-worker, WCCO reported.
