Although most fans agree that Bob Dylan will go down as arguably the greatest American songwriter of the 20th Century, his performance at the Xcel Energy Center Wednesday night came off a little flat.

The crowd of 7,000 was energized by a few classics but was otherwise disengaged in the three-quarters full arena, according to a review by City Pages. There was also little interaction between Dylan and the crowd, only speaking to his audience when he introduced the band.

Dylan not acknowledging the crowd is just part of a typical performance, the Pioneer Press says. The Minnesota native appeared to be in a playful mood and never stopped grinning.

At 71 years old, Dylan sounds better vocally than he did the last time he performed in the Twin Cities in 2008.

He even offered a surprise inclusion of the track, "Early Roman Kings," from his recent album, Tempest. It's one of the only times on tour he's played a song from the new album, according to the Star Tribune.

Most critics agree Dylan looked like he was having a good time which may be a sign he won't wait four more years to play another gig in the Twin Cities.
