Gay couples and wedding guests will fill Minneapolis City Hall late Wednesday night in anticipation of the first legal same-sex marriage ceremonies set to begin after the stroke of midnight.

Minnesota will become the 13th state in the nation to allow same-sex marriage.

Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak along with Hennepin County judges will officiate weddings on the first day gay couples can legally marry.

The celebration begins at 10:45 p.m. when ticket-holders will be allowed inside. Gov. Mark Dayton will give a welcoming speech at 11:15 p.m. followed by a performance by the Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus and few words from Rybak.

The first couple in line to wed are Cathy ten Broeke and Margaret Miles, who plan to wear the same wedding dresses they wore at their commitment ceremony 12 years ago.

The Uptake is live streaming the events. Their coverage begins at 8 p.m. from Wilde Roast Cafe in Minneapolis, where a wedding reception sponsored by Minnesotans United for All Families will be held, according to MinnPost.

In St. Paul, Fox 9 reports 11 same-sex couples have planned their weddings Thursday at St. Paul's Como Zoo and Conservatory.

The Star Tribune will be live-blogging until wee hours from the weddings around the state.

While late-night parties will take place in the Twin Cities, National Public Radio reports that not all of Minnesota is ready for the new law.
