Savanna Greywind's boyfriend given full custody of their baby
The newborn baby at the center of the Savanna Greywind tragedy is now at home with her father.
This comes after DNA tests confirmed the infant, named Haisley Jo, is indeed the daughter of 22-year-old Fargo resident Greywind – who was eight months pregnant when she disappeared last month.
Her body was discovered in the Red River on Aug. 27, and the baby was found with the two suspects in Greywind's homicide.
Now, WDAY reports that Ashton Matheny, boyfriend of the victim, has been given full legal custody of their child.
The station says the baby was in danger of being handed over to Cass County Social Services in Fargo, but a district judge dismissed the protective custody order after the DNA results.
“It was a great day,” Matheny told the station after a court hearing this week. “I actually started crying in the courtroom — tears of joy. I was waiting for this day.”
According to KFGO, Matheny says he will work with Greywind's parents in the raising of Haisley Jo, saying "it’s their first grandchild. I would never keep her from them.”

The homicide case
Meanwhile, Brooke Lynn Crews and William Henry Hoehn, who lived in the same apartment building as Greywind, are facing charges in the 22-year-old's death.
Greywind was reported missing on Aug. 19, after she went to the pair's home and never returned.
The charges say Crews later told police she had arranged to have Greywind come to her apartment, and instructed the young woman "on how to self-induce child birth by breaking her own water."
Crews also admitted she had "taken advantage" of Greywind "in an attempt to obtain her child and possibly keep the child as her own," according to the charges.
