A school bus company contracted by St. Paul Public Schools left students from about 10 different routes waiting for buses that never showed and caused a dozen other routes to be delayed, according to the Pioneer Press.

The district's transportation director tells the newspaper that bus dispatchers and drivers at a new terminal operated by Minnesota Central Bus were not familiar with the St. Paul area and GPS tracking systems didn't work Tuesday morning.

The first day of school also brought a handful of school bus crash reports. KAAL-TV says a a van rear-ended a school bus around Tuesday afternoon in Olmstead County. No injuries were reported in that crash.

Two other school bus crashes were reported Tuesday morning in Maplewood and Minneapolis. Neither involved serious injuries.
