Details are few, but a middle school in St. Louis Park is notifying parents of a "serious pool-related incident," WCCO reports.

A school district official tells WCCO a 12-year-old boy who was in distress was pulled from the swimming pool at about 9 a.m. during a gym class. CPR was performed before the boy was sent to a hospital.

The station reports that the school's principal sent a letter to parents alerting them to the incident and says after-school activities were cancelled.

FOX 9 reports the student was first taken to Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital and later transferred to Gillette Children's Hospital in St. Paul.

The incident bears some similarity to one that occurred at a Fargo high school earlier this month. In that case an unresponsive boy was pulled from the deep end of a pool during a physical education class at Fargo South High School, KXNews reported.

A student told the station three classmates had found the boy at the bottom of the pool and that two teachers performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

A day later WDAY reported that the boy remained hospitalized and that school officials declined to provide information about what had happened.
