Schools announce closures ahead of Wednesday snow

Minneapolis and St. Paul are among the districts closing.
Publish date:

Not a flake of snow has dropped in the metro area yet and already school districts are announcing closures on Wednesday.

Minneapolis and St. Paul school districts were the first to announce snow days for Wednesday, ahead of what is expected to be the biggest snowfall of the season in the Twin Cities.

Minneapolis Public Schools says the decision has been taken due to "high level of confidence in the forecast and the predicted snowfall rate of an inch per hour during the morning commute."

"This predicted heavy snowfall makes travel hazardous for buses and cars," it added.

The National Weather Service is predicting that heavy snow will move in overnight from southeast to northeast, reaching the Twin Cities between 3-5 a.m.

Around 5-9 inches of snow is expected to fall during the day.

The list of school closures below was up-to-date as of 9:45 p.m. Tuesday. You can check this list from KARE 11 if your school district isn't on there.
