Search efforts are underway to locate a man who went missing while swimming on Big Kandiyohi Lake on Sunday evening.
The 32-year-old went missing around 6:30 p.m. after going swimming from a boat with friends.
A boater in the area tried to assist but did not find the man.
The sheriff's office began search and rescue efforts Sunday evening until it got dark and began searching again Monday morning, the sheriff's office said.
No other details have been shared.
Big Kandiyohi Lake is located near the town of Lake Lillian in the Willmar Lakes Area and is popular among anglers.
This is one of several water incidents reported over the weekend, which saw record-high temperatures across the state.
A 26-year-old father was recovered from Moore Lake in Fridley on Sunday after he attempted to swim out to help his two kids get back to shore. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.
A 9-year-old boy died after an apparent drowning at a pool in North Mankato on Saturday.
And on Friday, a 12-year-old boy was hospitalized after a drowning incident at a water park in north Minneapolis.
As of April 30 of this year, the Minnesota DNR reported six non-boating drownings.
In 2020, there were 49 non-boating drownings and 16 boating fatalities in Minnesota, the DNR says. That was up from 2019, when 35 people died in non-boating drownings and 10 people died in boating fatalities.
