The body of a 26-year-old man reported missing the day before Halloween 2018 was found last week, with authorities confirming the news on Wednesday.

The Red Lake Department of Public Safety has confirmed the death of Dillon James Sayers, who was reported missing Oct. 30 and hadn't been seen since family members dropped him off at his home on the Red Lake Reservation on Oct. 23.

Information led to a search of two areas of interest, carried out Apr. 24 by Red Lake police, FBI Headwaters Safe Trails Task Force, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and two cadaver dogs from a Missouri search and rescue group.

Sayers' body was discovered in one of the areas of interest. An FBI Evidence Response Team exhumed the remains and sent them to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.

The case is still active and the cause of Sayers' death remains under investigation.

"People directly responsible for Sayers’ death and any others who may have assisted and/or concealed information will be considered equally responsible and charged accordingly," Red Lake Department of Public Safety said in a release.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Red Lake DPS at 218-679-3313.
