Searchers find body of missing mushroom hunter in southeast Minnesota

The 47-year-old was reported missing after he didn't return home from mushroom hunting.

A Minnesota man was found dead after a lengthy search after he didn't return home from mushroom hunting. 

According to the Houston County Sheriff's Office, the body of 47-year-old Jason M. Moore was found around 2 p.m. May 25 in a wooded area near the area where his family believed he had gone searching for mushrooms. 

The sheriff's office was contacted by his family at approximately 11:05 p.m. May 24 after Moore didn't return home. Deputies and the La Crescent Police Department went to an area on Chicken Ridge Road in rural Houston County and found Moore's vehicle. 

Ground crews and the State Patrol flight division searched into the early morning hours, then resumed the operation again on the morning of the 25th. Moore's body was found around 2 p.m. that day. 

A cause of death has not been revealed. 

"Our condolences to Mr. Moore's family and we thank the agencies involved for their assistance," the sheriff's release said.
