Searchers find swimmer's body in the Mississippi River at St. Cloud

Searchers used sonar and drones to try to find him.

Search teams have recovered the body of a man spotted struggling while swimming in the Mississippi River at St. Cloud.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the body of a man matching the missing person was found just after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

A search was sparked on Monday afternoon after the man was seeing walking into the river around 4:30 p.m., and started to swim as if he intended to cross to the river's east side.

But witnesses say he appeared to be struggling to keep his head above water as he swam near 5th Avenue North.

He was wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt at the time.

He's believed to have drowned, though this will be officially confirmed by an autopsy. His identity has not yet been released.

Search teams used drones and sonar to try and locate the body, with sonar picking up a reading that turned out to be the missing man, before divers pulled him out.
