Brrrr! Season's first frost warning for northern part of state

The tomato plants and impatiens pots need to have towels tossed over them tonight in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The Duluth News Tribune reports that the National Weather Service in Duluth has issued the first frost advisory for the season. The advisory begins early Monday morning, when overnight temperatures are expected to fall into the low 30s, and continue until 8 a.m.

The Northland News Center reports that the advisory includes areas of Duluth and Superior. Counties in the widespread advisory include all or parts of Koochiching, St. Louis, Lake, Cook, Itasca, Carlton and Aitkin in Minnesota and Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland, Iron, Burnett, Washburn, Sawyer and Price in Wisconsin.

The Weather Service warns that temperatures may fall into the upper 20s on the Iron Range.

Weather Service warns of fire and frost

The National Weather Service says very dry and windy weather will create elevated to critical fire weather conditions across parts of Minnesota. The southern two-thirds of the state is under the most serious wildfire warning. Separately, frost is possible across much of the state Monday night.

Northern Minnesota under Red Flag Warning
