The second of two people killed in a single-vehicle crash Saturday night has been identified as Sam Schuneman.
Minnesota Hockey, the governing body of youth hockey in Minnesota, first identified Schuneman, whose family has since confirmed his death in social media posts.
Schuneman was the front seat passenger in a vehicle that left the roadway near 3120 North Shore Drive around 11:35 p.m. The car struck several trees, according to police.
Schuneman died at the scene and 20-year-old Mack Motzko, the son of Gophers hockey coach Bob Motzko, died after being taken to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale.
Schuneman's Facebook page lists him as living in Arizona, and says he's a graduate of the University of St. Thomas.
Motzko was in the back seat of the vehicle, police said. The driver, an unidentified 51-year-old man, was transported to North Memorial with critical injuries.
Monday afternoon, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner said Motzko died early Sunday from "blunt force head injuries." Schuneman's cause of death was listed as "multiple blunt force injuries."
Police believe speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the deadly crash.
