A stretch of more than four miles on I-35W will close down this weekend as part of yet another project on the busy interstate.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced that the freeway will close between I-94 in Minneapolis and Hwy. 280 in Roseville starting 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9.
Ramps will close an hour earlier that night, with the 4.4 mile stretch of I-35 re-opening at 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12.
MnDOT says the closure is part of a three-month long project it's undertaking between Washington and Portland Aves.
This work will see the interstate resurfaced, drainage and median improvements carried out, and 11 ramps repaired.
Drivers will be detoured via Hwy. 280 and I-94.
It's not the only major route affected this weekend. I-494 in Mendota Heights, Eagan and Inver Grove Heights will once again experience lane and ramp closures starting at 6 p.m. Friday.
MnDOT is telling drivers to expect "major delays" as the left lane of eastbound I-494 closes between I-35E and Hwy. 62, before westbound I-494 is reduced to a single lane between Hwy. 52 and I-35E.
The closure will remain in place while resurfacing work is carried out on the westbound road.
