Security guards reach tentative contract agreement
About 2,000 Twin Cities security guards came to a tentative agreement with six contractors after a one-day strike.
The Star Tribune reports Service Employees International Union Local 26 went back to the bargaining table with G4S, AllliedBarton, Securitas, Viking Security, ABM Security and Whelan and reached a deal late Thursday that includes a wage increase.
On average, security officers make $12.30 per hour. The tentative contract increases pay $1.20 over three years.
The deal also protects hundreds of full-time jobs from being reclassified to part-time and, the Pioneer Press says, suburban security guards will get employer-based health care coverage for the first time, and all officers secured an additional day of sick leave.
Before Wednesday's strike, the union struck a deal with St. Paul-based American Security, the largest of the seven service providers.
