A semi driver was killed when he ran off a southern Minnesota highway and crashed into the front of a Mankato hotel.
The crash happened just before 4:30 p.m. Monday at the River Hills Hotel when an eastbound freightliner went off Highway 14 and slammed into the hotel.
The State Patrol did not report any injuries at the hotel, though video taken by Ryan Rutjes shows dozens of emergency responders at the scene.
The semi driver, identified as 64-year-old Larry D. Tiede, of Waseca, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the State Patrol.
According to the Mankato Free Press, the semi had to travel down a ridge and then cross Raintree Road before hitting the pillars outside the hotel's main entrance.
