Separate crashes in western Minnesota leave 2 motorists dead

There have been at least 246 deaths on Minnesota roads this year.

There have been two fatal crashes in western Minnesota since Monday. 

According to the State Patrol, a crash just before 9 p.m. occurred on Hwy. 9 at 28th Avenue North in Spring Prairie Township, Clay County. 

It involved a woman in a Buick Lesabre who was eastbound on 28th Avenue, and according to the State Patrol she collided with the side of a semi trailer at the intersection. 

The 41-year-old woman from Bejou, Minnesota, suffered fatal injuries. Her name has not been released. The semi driver was not injuries. 

A separate fatal crash happened Monday afternoon in Douglas County, on County Road 41 between Evansville and Interstate 94. 

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, a 72-year-old Fargo woman was westbound in a car on the county road when she crossed over the center line and collided head-on with a pickup. 

The Fargo woman, identified as Aida E. Nolan, died at the scene. The driver and passenger in the pickup, men ages 38 and 39, respectively, were transported to Alomere Health Hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. 

There have been at least 246 deaths on Minnesota roads in 2021. At the same point in 2020 there had been 190 deaths on Minnesota roads, according to the state's Office of Traffic Safety.
