Sexual assault under investigation near University of Minnesota campus

A timely warning has been issued to university students.

The University of Minnesota has issued a "timely warning" safety alert after a sexual assault near campus.

The incident happened at 3 a.m. on Sunday in the 1600 block of University Avenue Southeast, which is on the northern edge of the East Bank campus and is also home to a number of fraternity buildings.

The suspect has been described as a man in his 20s with a chin-strap beard, wearing a black sweater and grey sweatpants.

Per Minneapolis Police Department, the incident was a reported burglary that also involved inappropriate touching.
