Shakopee man killed in collision near Willmar

He was the driver of a Chevrolet truck that broadsided an SUV.

A Shakopee man died was killed in a collision near Willmar on Thursday afternoon.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 9 and County Road 127.

A Chevrolet Suburban, driven by a 40-year-old woman from New London, was northbound on County Road 9 when it was struck by a Chevrolet Utility Truck eastbound on 127.

The driver of the Chevy truck, a 42-year-old man from Shakopee, was found outside of his vehicle by responders when they arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman in the Suburban had to be extricated from her vehicle and was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital, where her condition is unknown.

The name of the deceased has not yet been released, pending the notification of his family.

The crash is under investigation by the sheriff's office, which was assisted by responders from Willmar, Spicer, New London, and the Minnesota State Patrol.
