Sheriff: Alcohol a factor in ATV crash that injured 2 in Pequot Lakes

The two were ejected and then pinned under the ATV.

Two people were injured, one seriously, in an ATV crash in rural Pequot Lakes on Saturday.

According to the Cass County Sheriff's Office, a 58-year-old woman and her 59-year-old male passenger were riding an ATV on a driveway near 17th Avenue Southwest at 7:34 p.m. on May 8 when she "made a sharp turn causing the machine to roll," the sheriff's office said.

They were both ejected and pinned under the ATV, the release said.

A person in the area heard the crash and moved the ATV off the riders before rendering aid.

The driver was taken to a hospital in Brainerd for unknown injuries, while the passenger was taken to a St. Cloud hospital for serious injuries, the release says.

The sheriff's office says alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash but the incident is still under investigation.

According to the Minnesota DNR, last year there were 25 ATV fatalities in Minnesota.
