A driver was arrested for DWI last weekend after driving around with a smashed windshield, as shown in the photo above.

According to the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, the drunk driver was headed north in the southbound lane of Red Wing Blvd. near 200th St. – located southeast of Hastings – around 10 p.m. Saturday.

A deputy who spotted the erratic driving activated the squad car's sirens and lights, and after following for a short distance the driver eventually began to pull over, hitting a mailbox in the process before making a wide turn into a driveway and stopping.

The driver got out of the vehicle and was ordered to the ground by the deputy, who observed that the driver's right hand was bleeding. The driver was arrested for DWI.

The sheriff's office believes that the driver kept going with a smashed windshield for at least three miles before the deputy made the traffic stop.

"Thankfully it was only a mailbox he hit," the sheriff's office said.
