A southern Minnesota woman is in serious condition after being assaulted by an intruder inside her home.

According to the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened in rural Mankato on Saturday, Feb. 23, just before 11 p.m.

A 911 caller reported a person leaving an elderly woman's home on Union Street in South Bend Township, and a short time later the victim called 911 saying she'd been assaulted.

The woman, whose identity hasn't been revealed, was transported to the hospital where, as of Monday, she remained in serious condition.

The suspect fled the scene on foot before deputies arrived, concealing their identity to the point that there isn't a great physical description.

The suspect is, however, "believed to be associated with a sport utility vehicle seen leaving the area by a witness."

Anyone with information that could help the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office find the culprit is asked to call county dispatch at 507-304-4863.
