The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office says a man found dead in the street in Rochester early Tuesday morning had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Information released Wednesday afternoon notes that the 911 call from a passerby who found the body was made at 3:48 a.m., with the victim's body found lying in the road on 45th Street SE between St. Bridget's Rd. SE and Simpson Rd. SE.

Authorities described the victim as a Somali male in his 20s. He has been "tentatively identified" pending confirmation from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner's Office.

The cause of death has not been announced and the sheriff's office is not commenting about injuries the man sustained other than saying he was shot multiple times.

No arrests have been made and it's unclear if there are any suspects.

Investigators do not believe this was a random act of violence and they don't think there is any threat to the public.

Anyone with information that could help investigators is asked to call a 24-hour confidential tip line at 507-328-6688. All tips can be made anonymously.
