A man is suspected of killing a relative and seriously injuring two others in an axe attack in a small, southwest Wisconsin town.
Law enforcement arrived to the home in the Town of Sparta, about 30 miles east of La Crosse, around 11:40 a.m. Sunday, after a 911 call, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
At the scene, law enforcement found the suspected attacker outside of the home with a rifle, and suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man was arrested, the sheriff's office said.
Inside the home they located one of the victims: 87-year-old Bernard Waite, a relative of the suspect. Waite was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other attack victims were located as well. Both were taken to the hospital with "serious injuries," according to the sheriff's office. As of Tuesday afternoon, one remained hospitalized while the other was treated and released, the sheriff's office said.
The suspect, who also suffered a serious injury due to the gunshot, remained hospitalized Tuesday as well
The sheriff's office has not released any other details about the suspect at this time.
